There are other "order of magnitude like" (/logarithmic) scales used by scientists some of them follow:
Absolute Scales:
1) pH - measures the strength of acids and bases (See links on main page.)
2) dB (Decibel) - measures the strength of sounds
3) Richter - measures the strength of earthquakes (See links on main page.)
Relative Scales: (actually based upon damage but related to wind speed)
1) Fujita - (F0-F6?) measures the strength of tornadoes (See links on main page.)
2) Hurricane Intensity (Category 1-5) (See links on main page.)
