The CMU MRSEC has the following educational objectives:

• Provide resources to local high school science teachers for the development of curriculum modules that will expose high school students to materials science.
• Provide meaningful research experiences for undergraduates at CMU and collaborating institutions.
• Develop additional opportunities for CMU graduate students for advanced study and exposure to the science and engineering of grain boundaries and crystalline interfaces.
• Increase the participation of underrepresented groups in science and engineering
